Vellum Soft Bodies

Free

Hello everyone! In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to create and play around with vellum soft bodies inside Houdini.

You will see with only 3 parameters we can change our soft bodies behaviors and it is pretty easy to start playing around with vellum.

Hope you enjoy!

Intro Cloth: Make and Simulate

Free

Hi everyone and welcome to our second tutorial: into the pop net world part one.

I have decided to split this tutorial into different parts to keep things simple.

I want to share with you how I got into PopNet coming from Processing and X-Particles in Cinema4D. Instead of doing another popnet tutorial like fireworks or falling particles, I want to show you something different like recreating my Energy Flow project that I have done in Processing.

In this first part, we are going to understand the basic principles of programming and learn how to add and edit a simple noise force to our particles. Then we are going to generate trails to create these organic flows. Feel free to play with it and don’t forget to share with us your results!

Hope you enjoy!

Intro Rigid Body Dynamics

Free

Hi everyone. In this tutorial, we are going to learn the basics of Rigid Body Dynamics inside Houdini. If you come from Cinema4D, it will be really easy to understand the process.

You can do powerful and complex destruction systems with Rigid Body Dynamics and I hope this video will help you to get started with only a few clicks in the Shelf tools.

Hope you enjoy this tutorial!

Optical Flow with Flip Tank

Free

Hi everyone. In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to use optical flow to control our fluid simulation. This technic can be used in different simulations like particles, fluids or smoke.

I want to say this tutorial is a follow up from the original one from Mark Fancher. Big thanks to him for making his awesome video about optical flow, where he is emitting fluids from the footage and using optical flow to control its velocity.

On this tutorial, we are going to explore a similar workflow but instead of emitting fluid, we are going to use the optical flow to control a flip tank like this Houdini example.

Dancing Spheres

Free

In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to emit particles and stick them to a moving surface, in our case a dancing character.

This tutorial was requested by one of our Patrons and it was a nice challenge to figure this out.

Hope you enjoy this tutorial and don’t forget to share your results with us!

Swarm System

Free

Hello everyone! On this tutorial, we are going to learn how to transform our Particles into Swarms.

If you have seen my work, you already know that I love to develop particle emitters and give them some complex and organic movements. I have done a few works back in 2014 with this Swarm movement in Processing.

It was hard to explain the process and every function in detail but I hope you have learned with this video.

Into Pop Net Part 2

Free

In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to use an image and vex to control our particles. we are going to use an image to control the movement of our particles, and to do that, we are going to use the brightness of each pixel to control the direction of our particles.

We need to know the position of each particle and extract the color of the corresponding pixel. That will be done with a simple vop node with a color map. then, we are going to use the brightness from that color and convert it to direction or velocity.

Hope you enjoy this video and learn with us!

Into Houdini & Simple Particle System

Free

It is our very first Houdini’s Tutorial!

As a Cinema4D, Processing and Unity Developer, how can we start using Houdini?

In this tutorial, we are going to explore very basic principles in Houdini and create this artwork with just a few nodes. You are going to learn how to scatter points and color them with an image, use very simple VEX programming to edit our points, and work with a very basic particle system with pop net.

You will see that you can create very complex art with simple nodes in Houdini.

Hope you enjoy it!
